What Fits 1/4 Asella Girls?
Asella Dolls, also known as Noble Dolls, is run by the lovely Asella. She’s an extremely skilled sculptor from France who makes dolls in a variety of sizes, notably 1/4 scale. Previously, her dolls were produced by JpopDolls. These days, you can purchase from her directly on Instagram.
Sometimes dolls are in-stock, sometimes they’ll need to be pre-ordered. You’ll just have to follow her to see what the options are! (≧▽≦)
Her sculpts currently on the 1/4 bodies are:
Raspberry (available both professionally cast and hand cast by Asella)
Rivanone (available both professionally cast and hand cast by Asella)
Rendezvous (only available hand cast by Asella at this time)
These dolls are actually quite easy to shop for! They’re Slim MSD size, the same size as Fairyland’s Minifee line, so you’ll be able to find lots of cute, handmade options thanks to that.
Clothing marked for Minifee, U-noa, Narae, and other similar size dolls will almost always work, but take care with tight-fitting, non-stretch fabrics. 1/4 Asella Doll measurements are slightly different than Minifee, notably a smaller waist and larger hips. You might want to compare measurements first. Both flat and heeled shoes made for Minifee and U-noa will also work.
Speaking of measurements, let’s get into that!

We know that clothing and shoes for Slim MSD size dolls like Minifee work, but what about clothing and shoes from other dolls? You’ll be pleased to know that you have some other options, too!
Quite a few American fashion dolls are compatible:
Evangeline Ghastly: A fashion doll from Tonner with unique clothing options. The bust area on clothing may be too large on certain outfits, but it’s easily fixable with some simple alterations. Otherwise, Evangeline Ghastly is a near perfect fit in both clothing and shoes, which is great — she has some drop-dead gorgeous options!
Ellowyne Wilde: Another cutie from Tonner! Ellowyne is less curvy, so while stretchy and looser outfits will work, you’ll need to be careful with non-stretch fabrics, especially if the design is tight on the bust or hips. I can tell you from experience to not even attempt denim clothing! Her shoes are unfortunately too small to work for 1/4 Asella dolls.
Tonner American Model 22”: Her clothes are simply too large to work for 1/4 Asella dolls, but her feet are the perfect size!
Madame Alexander Alex: Alex’s clothes are a super tight fit, but they DO work with enough willpower. Unfortunately, the shoes are too small.
Not to be confused with Madame Alexander’s other adult doll, Cissy, who is not compatible.
Ashton Drake Gene Marshall: Gene’s clothing is an almost perfect fit, if the clothing isn’t sitting on the hips. Shorts and pants won’t go over your Asella doll’s hips, but you’ll have a great time with all of the fun dress options. The clothing is also super well made! Gene’s feet are too small for her shoes to work, though.
One of my favorite resources for American doll sizes is Brodjam. They also have a great eBay store!
Raspberry’s outfit is actually the outfit from Dreamstate Evangeline Ghastly! Rendezvous’s adorable dress is a Minifee size dress from La Mienne Doll.
Volks SDM (formerly known as MSD) and MDD are chunkier than Slim MSD size dolls. This means that while the dolls are the same height, clothing and shoes won’t necessarily be compatible. SDM and MDD clothing tends to look out of scale on Slim MSDs, and Slim MSD clothing likely won’t fit SDM and MDD at all. Despite that, sometimes clothing can work. You just have to consider things like the material, fit, and how the clothing is made. The clothing options from Volks are super cute, trendy, and well made, so I just love when they work out!
Shopping tip: It’s currently less expensive to buy from Volks JP than it is from Volks USA, even with shipping considered, if you’re converting JPY to USD and shipping to the USA.
I recently bought some SDM clothing from Volks, so let’s see what works on these girls!
Skirts: Asella dolls’ large hips mean that yes, Volks SDM/MDD skirts DO work. (> •́)ᕗ Those hips don’t lie! Keep in mind that skirts that might sit on a SDM’s waist will sit on an Asella Doll’s hips, so everything will look a little longer than what the stock photo shows.
Raspberry is wearing a Volks Pink Check Skirt Mini. This skirt has an elastic waistband in the back, so it actually does sit nicely on the waist. The ribbon is also adjustable for a tighter fit.
Sweaters and cardigans: These can work depending on how you style them. Just keep in mind they’ll have a very bulky/baggy fit to them. If I was putting an outfit together with this cardigan, I’d open the top and bottom buttons and pair it with a tight dress to make it look more natural.
Raspberry is wearing a Volks Fluffy Cardigan / Mini (White).
Tops and dresses: These will generally look too baggy, although I guess it kind of worked out here? I would be careful about these, though — I think I just got lucky this time!
Raspberry is wearing a Volks Pure White Dress / Mini.
I haven’t tried SDM sized clothing from brands outside of Volks. If you’re going to attempt this, I would suggest picking a skirt that’s supposed to sit on the natural waist of the doll it’s made for, so it’ll fall somewhere between the waist and hips of your Asella doll. I was already familiar with how Volks clothing was made, specifically that there’s usually elastic or ribbon involved in clothing marked as fitting both their resin and vinyl dolls for a specific scale, so I was comfortable purchasing a few items from Volks to play around with.
I’ll save you the heartbreak and tell you right now, there is no fixing the shoes. (ᵕ—ᴗ—) They’re just BIG in every dimension. Even stuffed to fill out the gaps, they still clearly look like shoes made for another size doll.
If there’s another doll you’re curious about, let me know! I’m happy to compare measurements or even test the clothing out if it looks like a potential match.
There are two types of Asella bodies, which I’ll refer to the old body and the new body. They’re both beautiful and identical in measurement. The new body just has some notably different hand poses and the addition of mobility thighs that makes it easier for your doll to sit.
The old body (left) and new body (right). The Raspberry on the left is wearing Volks MDD underwear, which surprisingly is fitting better than the Minifee size underwear on the right! Clicking on these images will open a larger version in a new tab.
You can see the dolls are pretty much identical. Both sculpts are Raspberry. The Raspberry on the left is Pinky Flesh from JpopDolls, and the Raspberry on the right is Normal Skin, hand cast by Asella.
Let’s take a closer look at the hands!
If you’re not sure which body your doll has, it’s easiest to check by the thigh joints. If your doll has the thigh mobility mechanism, you’re on the new body. Both bodies are surprisingly great at posing, and of course just lovely in general, so you’ll have a great doll experience no matter which body you’re on.
(。•̀ᴗ-)✧ I’ll try to update my blog on a more regular basis going forward! I hope this was all super helpful!
Acronyms:
BJD: Ball jointed dolls
MSD: Mini Super Dollfie, the old name for the Volks SDM line. Although technically a brand name, this can also refer to a general size of BJDs.
SDM: Super Dollfie Mini, the name of Volks’s approximately 40 cm line of resin dolls.
MDD: Mini Dollfie Dream, the name of Volks’s approximately 40 cm line of vinyl dolls.
Slim MSD: Slim Mini Super Dollfie. There’s not actually a Slim Mini Super Dollfie line! Slim MSD refers to dolls that are in the same height range of MSDs but have slimmer, more adult-like proportions. The most famous doll in this size is Minifee, but you’ll find it applied to many dolls like Alchemic Labo’s U-noa and various artist dolls.
